Last night we attended a fete to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Betsey Johnson! The iconic designer opened her accessory showroom in the Steve Madden offices. We should all be familiar with Betsey’s whimsical take on everything she touches and infamous cartwheels at the end of her fashion shows.
There was food galore – including passed bite-sized tacos, pigs in a blanket, and mini “Big Mac” burgers – and champagne, of course.
which treats are real or kitschy accessories?

The bridal collection is a funky play on classic accessories and silhouettes. Nothing was left un-sparkled. It’s prefect for the girl who wants to make a statement on her big day while remaining timeless.
Speaking of time…
I had to sneak in a selfie before the night was over.
It was an honor to attend this party and be in her presence. I have been a longtime fan of hers as a designer and the brand itself, especially in high school when my style was more colorful and fun. But I still appreciate and admire her work for being fearless. She spoke to everyone for about thirty minutes, briefly traveling through time from when she first started out to now (and how she hates social media). Her rock and roll style juxtaposed with feminine playfulness is iconic and why we love her.
Happy 50th Betsey!
