From moving to NYC at age 19 and continuing to hustle almost a decade later, there are a few things Teresa Mendoza and I have in common – we #slay.
It’s not easy to get to the top. When I first moved here, I thought I had it alllllll figured out. Nobody could tell me nothin’! I was very much reminiscent of Teresa, Queen of the South, in my earlier years – rebellious but calculated on my next move; always looking for an opportunity to rise.
In Season 1 of Queen of the South, a drama about a hopeless romantic in Jalisco, Mexico who falls in love with a drug cartel kingpin then forced to flee the country, Teresa Mendoza fights her way to the top and falls into an unpredicted new life. She’s removed from the only people she knows as family while trying to figure out who and why she has been kidnapped.
Season 2 of Queen of the South will shift its focus from highlighting Teresa’s survival instincts to showcasing her growth in the cartel underworld. Viewers will get to see Teresa come into her own as she starts to recognize her power and potential. As Teresa learns what it takes to become the Queenpin however, she slowly realizes that ambition comes with a heavy price. Loyalties are tested, love becomes a vulnerability and moral compromises have to be made. Critical to Teresa’s rise will be Camila Vargas, serving as both a mentor and a formidable foe standing in her way as she struggles to reach the throne. By the end of the season, viewers will come to recognize that “there can only be one queen.
Amongst my many hustles throughout the years, I’ve finally seemed to find my groove. I’m working full time during the week, but my side hustles include (obviously) blogging and reselling clothes online. Both tie into my future goals. I’ve always been great at writing and sharing my thoughts, and I’ve always wanted to own my own boutique. Reselling clothes online is my little taste of running my own virtual boutique. While I’m not fully where I want to be yet I know with time and consistency, I will rise to the top of both of my games.
- Start your mornings with peace and clarity. When you’re focused on how to #slay your day, you will always win.
- Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s a cliche, but it’s true! Focusing on the little nuances throughout the day will hinder you from seeing the bigger picture.
- Stop the comparisons! Everyone has their own definition of how to #slay. Find your own hustle and strive to be the best at your craft.
- Always remember tomorrow is a new day.
